Jetty

Lane

In October of this year (17th - 27th) a group of 10-15 people are going to do something VERY special to raise money for Jetty Lane….

A Charity Trek in Nepal (& you can join in too)

Perhaps you needed that extra nudge to fulfill a dream of trekking in the Nepalese mountains - the extra super-juice of knowing that by going or by raising funds for this Charity Trek, you are supporting a local charity working hard to raise money to build facilities for children and young people in East Suffolk. This is that extra nudge!

Ten days, one good pair of boots, and a whole lot of gratitude for doing something incredible. Below are all the questions you might have, and a short video chat with Georgina.

Our Trekking Guide is Woodbridge resident Georgina Talfana. A qualified International Mountain Leader. Georgina has over 23 years of experience in leading groups of adults and children in mountain areas worldwide in facilitating outdoor activities. She also trains and assesses Duke of Edinburgh's Award expeditions up to gold level.

There are TWO ways you can join in this incredible experience: BECOME A TREKKER or BECOME A SPONSOR. Both are equally important

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q. I don’t understand. What is this?

Here is the skinny ❤️

A charity trek is a “sponsored challenge” It combines a physical goal (like going on this mountain adventure in Nepal) with fundraising for a good cause (in this instance for the Jetty Lane charity).

Qualified International Mountain Leader, Georgina Talfana, of www.tailormadetrekking.co.uk will lead a small group on a mountain adventure in October. All trekkers will pay for their own holidays (including flights, tour, accommodation, food etc) and people like YOU sponsor them by making a donation to Jetty Lane via our CAF account HERE.

Everyone wins: the trekkers get to go to a beautiful place, and work hard to complete the trek. When they finish it, they will feel super proud because they have helped a good cause. Donors feel proud to help a local charity, Georgina is happy to lead the trek and Jetty Lane is delighted to have some much-needed funds. It’s all good!!

Q. What do you want me to do?

A. You can make a donation to Jetty Lane’s CAF account HERE and / or get your trekking boots from under the stairs and think about becoming one of the 10-15 people actually going on the trek. Donations are completely separate from trek expenses, and all funds raised go to help Jetty Lane’s core charity costs.

Q. How do I find out more about the trek?

A. You are warmly encouraged to attend one of our information sessions held at The Pod, Jetty Lane at 11am on Saturday 28 March and 11am Saturday 25 April. You can also contact Georgina at Tailor Made Trekking or Cordelia at info@jettylane.org

Q. When is the trek going to take place?

A. Saturday 17th - Tuesday 27 October 2026. (Ten days)

Q. Tell me about the trek?

A. This moderate challenge is specifically organised to raise donations for Jetty Lane charity in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Full details can be found at: https://www.tailormadetrekking.co.uk/products/poon-hill-trek-nepal-trek-for-charity-jetty-lane

Q. Who is going to lead the group?

A. Georgina Talfana is a qualified and experienced International Mountain Leader who lives in Woodbridge and regularly leads treks in Nepal and Europe. https://www.tailormadetrekking.co.uk/pages/georgina-talfana-cv

Q. What is the cost of the trek?

A. Each trekker will pay for their own holiday. The cost of the guided trek (including transfers to and from Kathmandu & Pokhara airport, return flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara, transfers to and from the trek, 5 nights in hotels with breakfast only, 4 nights in tea houses with full board, guides and porters and wages, trekking permit, drinking water on trek) is £1,350 per person. There is a £300 supplement payable for single rooms.

Please go here for a more detailed breakdown of costs.

The £1,350 per trekker does not include international flights, travel insurance, visas, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, tips for guides, lunch and dinner in Kathmandu and Pokhara or water purifying tablets.

Donations are completely separate to trek expenses, and all funds raised go to help Jetty Lane’s core charity costs.

Q. How do I organise travel to and from Kathmandu?

A. You will need to organise this for yourself.

Q. What gear will I need?

A. The trek will not require specialised equipment though walking poles will be very useful. Guide Georgina Talfana is the best person to advise on this: please come to one of our information sessions held at Jetty Lane at 11am on Saturday 28 March and 11am on Saturday 25 April to find out more.

Q. Will the trek involve mountaineering?

A. No, the trek does not involve mountaineering.

Q. How fit do I need to be, and how demanding is the hardest day?

A. The first 2 days will be the hardest, involving up to 950m of ascent but they will be guided at a slow, steady pace, stopping for lunch enroute. The trek does not include mountaineering or specialised equipment. It is graded as moderate with up to 6 hours of trekking each day.

The terrain includes stone staircases where walking poles will be very useful. Participants are strongly recommended to train before departure, including swimming, gym sessions, walking, and fitness classes.

Q. Will I meet the group beforehand?

A. Yes, a great advantage of going on this trip is that the group will have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other and Georgina well in advance of October. Georgina is planning to organise two or three mini treks around Woodbridge (not the same thing as Nepal, but still!) specifically for this group during the summer.

Q. Is this suitable for a single person travelling on their own?

A. Definitely! This will be a group of 10 - 15 people and all will have a connection to Jetty Lane. We’re biased, but we expect this to make it a particularly friendly and safe group.

Q. Is this trek suitable for children?

A. Georgina is going to bring her 9 year old daughter with her but all children are different and parents or carers will need to make a careful assessment before signing up. The minimum acceptable age is 9. Children must have an energetic aptitude and fully understand their daily trekking responsibilities. Children are the sole responsibility of their parent or carer throughout the trip.

Q. I don’t live in Woodbridge, can I still come?

A. We expect the majority of trekkers to live in or near Woodbridge, or to have a connection with Jetty Lane. People who do not live near Woodbridge may miss out on meeting the group beforehand. And wherever people live, the plan is to raise money for Jetty Lane.

Q. Are there any training sessions organised?

A. Georgina is planning to organise two training day walks in ‘“rolling” Suffolk terrain prior to the trek (not the same thing as Nepal but still!). These will be organised specifically for this group during the summer. Dates will be confirmed in due course.

Q. I want to go on the trek. How do I raise money for Jetty Lane? Is there a minimum amount I need to raise?

A. We have organised a fundraiser, which means that anyone who wants to donate to the Nepal Trek for Charity can do so easily via our CAF (Charities Action Fund) account. All trekkers can simply encourage their friends and contacts to make a donation on this fundraiser rather than collecting sponsorship individually.

Q. What if I get sick / something comes up / I get cold feet / there aren’t enough people signed up?

A. The trip will not take place unless a minimum of 10 people sign up. We encourage everyone to take out appropriate insurance in case of sickness etc.

Q. How do I book a place?

A. Please follow this link or hit the button below ❤️
